All handguns are restricted under UK law and can only be carried with prior permission. Personal protection handguns are classified as restricted articles and we are unable to carry these.
You must notify us about the carriage of guns at least 72 hours before travel to ensure compliance with UK government (or other local government) embargoes and restrictions.
Therefore please put in a SR element with : SRWEAPBA Make/Model/Calibre/Type/Type and weight of Ammunition(may not be more then 5 kg).
On ending the booking, this SR element will automatically queue the booking to the BA security department. If all the information has been entered correctly, you will not receive a response.
We will only comment PNR´s if they are classified as below, or need transit between LHR/LGW v.v.: - Weapon is classified as MUW(Munitions of war) and clearance is issued
- Weapon is classified as MUW or SWP (Sporting weapon) and uplift denied due to an embargo
- Weapon needs to transfer between LHR/LGW and pax needs to arrange a courier
SPW requests will never turn KK or HK.
Check in: - at least 2 hours before the flight, to enable sufficient time to process the paperwork prior to clearing security.
- MCT: (minimum connecting time) In London-Heathrow
From Terminal 5 to Terminal 5 the MCT for sporting weapon/MUW is 3 hours
All firearms are subject to a £50 charge at check-in. Firearms are handled by a specialist third party agent on our behalf, this charge covers their costs.
The person travelling is responsible for ensuring having all the required documentation and licences for the weapons and ammunition. This may include export/import licences and authorisation from local and national authorities for the items to be carried.
Therefore please always check if it is allowed to carry sporting guns to the destination your customer is travelling to.
Preparing sporting guns for travel
Accepted shooting equipment must be packed in either a double rifle case, a pistol bag , a pistol case or shotgun bag. - The gun must be unloaded
- If possible the gun should be dismantled.
- Ammunition must be for sporting purposes.
- The weight of the ammunition must not exceed 5kg (11lbs) per passenger - sharing the weight allowance between passengers is not allowed.
- Ammunition must be securely boxed and preferably packed inside the travel case.
- Baggage containing ammunition must not bear 'explosives' labels.
