Free Cabin Baggage allowances

Customers travelling with British Airways, need to ensure that they are aware of the restrictions on their hand baggage, including:


Customers free size allowances:

The standard-sized bag is no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22ins x 18ins x 10ins), including the handle, pockets and wheels and for the second piece of laptop-sized bag – 45cm x 36cm x 20cm (18ins x 14ins x 8ins), including the handle, pockets and wheels. 

The standard-sized bag must be able to be:

  • fitted into the gauge available in the check-in area
  • lifted into the aircraft's overhead lockers unaided (although cabin crew will assist customer if they have additional needs)

 

The laptop-sized bag must fit under the seat in front of you.

If you journey involves another airline, you should check the hand baggage allowance with that airline before travelling.
If you are travelling with one of our oneworld alliance partners, the hand baggage allowance may differ and you should also check this before travelling.


Allowance for franchise airlines

Franchise airlines operate certain routes on behalf of British Airways, and baggage allowances vary when you travel with these other airlines.

On some routes these airlines operate small aircraft types which have limited cabin storage space, so you cannot always expect the same allowances as on larger aircraft.

If you are travelling from or transferring through an airport in and outside the EU, Albania, Kosovo, Iceland you may carry some liquids in your hand baggage, although restrictions apply. More details can be found here for
