The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the United States is currently implementing Secure Flight. This is an enhanced security check for passengers wishing to fly to/from/within the United States, which will help aviation security and help make travel easier for passengers.
By 1st November 2010 all airlines must have 100% of passengers complying with Secure Flight.
When travelling to/from or within the United States, your customers (adults, children and infants) are required to provide the following minimum Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) to British Airways when making a reservation: - Full last name and given name (as it appears on the passport)
- Date of Birth
- Gender (M or F)
- Redress Number * (if applicable)
* The US (Department of Homeland Security) DHS runs a program for travellers who have been repeatedly identified for additional screening and who would like to clarify the information held about them in the DHS system. The Redress Number is the reference number given to people who have applied to clarify their information through this programme (called DHS Travel Redress Inquiry Program – DHS TRIP). If a passenger has a Secure Flight Redress Number, please input the number into the PNR. Customers should advice if they have a Redress Number.
SFPD data may be collected at the time of making a booking (preferred option), or at any time up to 72 hrs prior to departure.
Bookings that are made within 72 hours of departure must include minimum SFPD.
You must complete the Secure Flight data via the GDS, using the Industry Standard entries, both for non group bookings and for group bookings.
From 1st November 2010 the US TSA may refuse boarding to passengers who have not supplied the full Secure Flight Passenger Data at least 72 hours prior to travel.
For more information, please visit following website: http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/secureflight/index.shtm
Important: Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) does not replace the requirement for APIS data. It is a subset of APIS, therefore if your customers have provided their full Apis data at least 72 hours before departure, then that data will also satisfy Secure Flight.

To comply with the US Secure Flight program, and following the Resolution recently adopted by IATA, Amadeus will shortly implement Ticketing Inhibition.
From 1 December 2010 any booking without minimum SFPD, where required, will fail to ticket. Therefore we recommend that this data be collected at point of sale or as soon as possible and entered into the PNR prior to ticketing.
All other GDSs are introducing similar functionality and some have been operating since 01 October 2010. Agents who are Ticketing using a Passive PNR must enter the Secure Flight Passenger Data in the Passive PNR, to enable Ticketing |
