Principles

We are committed to ensuring that our website works with the preferred technologies of the vast majority of our customers. In order to meet this goal, we track (anonymously) which browsers, operating systems, and screen resolutions our customers use, and how these change over time. We also maintain awareness of the most commonly used plugin and helper applications.

Accessibility

We support all versions of Microsoft Windows from Windows 98 onwards.

Apple Mac

Apple Mac customers having OS X.

Browsers

The Browsers that British Airways Speedbird Club currently support are

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and above (excluding test or 'BETA' versions)
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and above
  • Safari
  • Opera 9.0

Note: If you are using a test or 'BETA' version of a browser and encounter problems, please report this to the company that supports the browser in order that they may incorporate changes into any subsequent or live versions of the browser.

Screen resolutions

Our site is designed for optimal use at resolutions starting from 1024x768.

Speed of the website

We recognise that a fast site is important to our customers. We pay for independent monitoring of the website from over forty locations around the world. The resulting reports are reviewed regularly to ensure that we maintain our position with above-average performance. You should be aware that a number of factors can impact speed of response, many of which will be outside our control. They include your connection speed, the performance of your Internet Service Provider, or even just the amount of traffic on the Internet at the time.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that we place on your computer. We use two types of cookies on ba.com: Session Cookies and Permanent Cookies. Session Cookies are used to uniquely identify a customer throughout their visit. The BA site is hosted over many servers, but by giving each individual user a Session Cookie each server can handle the customers request. This enables us to provide a better, more reliable service, whilst minimising the data that we transfer across the Internet (i.e. just the unique session cookie as opposed to the flight details etc).

We use permanent cookies for two purposes. The first is to remember your chosen country. This ensures that we always provide you with country specific pages. The second reason is that they are used to track the number of unique and repeat visitors. This number is used by us for trends such as the number of repeat visitors per month. We can not identify individual users from this information.

Plugins and helpers

Whilst plugins and helpers are not required for key functions on our site, we do assume that the majority of customers have Flash capability (which is now usually installed with the browser), and the Adobe Acrobat Reader for pdf files. If a plugin or helper application is required to access content, this will normally be highlighted. These plugins can be downloaded via the links at the bottom of this page. British Airways are in no way responsible for any problems associated with these plugins.
